A torquey, efficient half-ton diesel — but EGR coolers, oil coolers, and a tangled emissions-recall history make service records essential.
The 3.0 EcoDiesel gives the Ram 1500 strong torque and impressive fuel economy, but it has a complicated history of emissions recalls and a set of recurring cooling-system failures. On these trucks, a complete and verified service and recall record matters as much as the mechanical inspection.
EGR coolers crack and leak, and have been part of recall activity.
CHECK Scan for EGR codes and check for coolant loss and recall completion.
Oil-cooler and coolant problems are recurring on these engines.
CHECK Check coolant condition and look for oil/coolant cross-contamination.
The EcoDiesel went through a major emissions recall and software updates.
